The Gulfport Arts Center is now under the auspices of City of Imagination, Inc.  It is located at 2726 54th Street South in Gulfport, Florida.  It will provide an environment in which artists and teachers can share their craft with the community.  Artists in any media, visual or performing arts, interested in conducting classes or workshops, further information or applications for using the arts center space may contact:

LIVE MODEL FIGURE DRAWING OPEN STUDIO~
The City of Imagination~Gulfport Arts Center is hosting a live model figure drawing open studio every Sunday beginning February 12, from 4-6pm. The studio is open to any artist or student of any skill level. A model is provided. All non-toxic mediums are welcome.  
The City of Imagination-Gulfport Arts Center is located at 2726 54th Street S between the small and large dog parks, and is a space with tables, chairs, and a sink with running water. Participants will be required to sign in and pay $5. They will be responsible for cleaning up their area afterwards and disposing of their trash. We have six stand alone easels which can be used on a first-come basis. In addition to your own art supplies, please bring containers for water, plastic bags, paper towels, rags or newspaper if any are necessary. OPEN STUDIO SESSIONS~





Open Studio sessions will begin on February 4th, 2012, 9a.m. to 12 p.m., $6 per session. The purpose of the sessions are to provide open studio space for all artists who wish to work independently on their art in a safe, creative environment. BASIC DRAWING WORKSHOP with Joseph Weinzettle, MFA.
Joe Weinzette, MFA, returns to the Gulfport Arts Center, a City of Imagination Project, to offer a Basic Drawing Workshop. This course introduces beginning students to basic drawing materials and concepts. Drawing techniques in this course include charcoal, graphite and ink. Class drawings will be based on direct observation of still lifes. Exercises will develop the students' skill in creating line, tone, volume and composition. (Weather and time permitting we may have some classes en plein air) Hard Vine or willow charcoal and an 18"x24" medium wt. drawing pad are required for the first class. Workshop will be held at the City of Imagination-Gulfport Arts Center located at 2726 54th Street Southadjacent to the dog parks, on Saturdays, starting January 28 and running through March 3 from 1:00-2:30pm. HAPPY PAINTING WITH LAURA FOR TEENS AND TWEENS:

Teens & Tweens, want something creative and fun to do?  Try HAPPY PAINTING WITH LAURA at the City of Imagination-Gulfport Arts Center.  Hang out with friends and make new ones while learning to paint!  No experience necessary.  Paint, equipment and canvas included.  $23 for two hour class.  For more information, visit

CELEBRATING FLORIDA!

On the fourth Thursday of the month, First Florida Frontiers will present a series of programs to celebrate what it means to live in Florida. According to special projects chair, Elizabeth Neily, “There are so many people like me who moved here from somewhere else. We’d like to encourage people to learn how to appreciate the miracle of this place.”

On July 28, Elizabeth Neily will be joined by Holly Harriman, to present "Living in Paradise: Foods and Medicinal Plants of the Tocobaga Indians." Neily and Harriman have explored the natural resources of the Tampa Bay area to discover how Florida’s first people thrived in one of the richest estuaries on the planet.   Slides of photographs and art will also be shown. 

First Florida Frontiers, a nonprofit organization, is planning a series of programs to spotlight Florida’s amazing natural and cultural history through storytelling, music and lectures.

Dr. Robert Sinibaldi, former president of Tampa Bay Fossil Club and author of Fossil Diving and What Your Fossils Can Tell You.  $5 Members of 1st Florida Frontiers/$8 Non-members.
 November 24, 2011:  Thanksgiving Feast Potluck.

December 22, 2011:  Your Connections with the Birth of the Sun.

Circus Arts With Tiele~ City of Imagination/Gulfport Arts Center is proud to present a month long workshop on Juggling, Acrobatics, and Clown arts. Through fun and games children will learn the circus arts, while exploring their creativity. This course will help them improve their strength, flexibility, creativity, and motor coordination, learn how to work in groups, respect their own limits and the limits of others, and also help each other in art of performance. Class will be held on Tuesdays from 6 to 7 P.M. and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 P.M. Cost will be $15.00 per class or $100.00 for a month (8 classes). ART WORKSHOP WITH ARTIST/MURALIST KEITH STILLWAGON  

Register by calling 727.415.4935.  Tuition is $60 for four (4) weeks to be paid at the start of the first class (exact amount please, no change available).  Following the first four weeks, each renewal will provide a fifth week free.    

Keith will share his visionary painting techniques with inexperienced and experienced students;  
share his knowledge and experience with brush, acrylic, canvas and other surfaces; teach use of various materials and brushes; share how to save money when purchasing materials; and more.  

PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP

A six-week playwriting workshop will be offered by local playwright Tinamarie Hansen. Over the course of the workshop, participants will discover the elements of playwriting and will be guided through the process of creating a ten-
to-fifteen minute one-act play. Ms. Hansen is the recipient of the 2009 Cathy Award for Best Original Writing as well as Best Production/Direction for her short play, “Buying Back Brooklyn” which was presented by the Gulfport Community Players. She is a 2007 graduate of Eckerd College’s Creative Writing program, and is currently a graduate student at University of Denver pursuing her Master’s Degree in Arts and Culture with a concentration in Creative Writing.

The workshop will be held Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00pm at the "Gulfport Arts Center, A City of Imagination Project," located
